706 An Audit of Antibiotic Prescribing in Acute Pancreatitis and Introduction of a Patient Safety and Cost Saving Diagnostic Tool

Abstract Background In managing acute pancreatitis it is challenging to distinguish systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) from bacterial infection, contributing inappropriate use of antibiotics, which are only recommended in cases infected pancreatitis. Over prescribing broad-spectrum antibiotics associated with C. difficile, adverse reactions and antibiotic resistance, has a cost implication. Procalcitonin (PCT) sensitive (93%) specific (79%) for diagnosing guide therapy. Method We performed retrospective audit the care received by 88 patients over 12-months.
